As many of you know I am a firefighter and I compete in the highest level of competition leveled on a firefighter.  This is the like the firefighter Olympics and what I have been personnally training for.  It is described as “The toughest 2 minutes in sports” and every bit challenging, both mentally and physically.

This is a 5 story climb up a tower in full gear with a 45 lbs highrise pack on your shoulder. At the top hoist a 45 lbs hose roll by rope 5 stories. Then run back down and move a 150 lbs piece of steel with a 10 lbs shot mallet 4 feet, run a 100′ slalom to a charged hose line. Hose pull your charged line back 100′ hitting a target with water, then drag a 175 lbs dummy 75 FEET!  In less than 2 minutes to qualify for the World Competition.

I will be competing a part of a 5 man relay team and a 2 man tandem team.  So if you are looking for for some entertainment and want to see how we do it in 40 lbs of gear! Then come on out we are Joint Base Charleston Fire Dept team.

Here is a clip from last year.

Hey Gang!

It’s been a long 5 months, but its almost over!  First of all, I want to commend each and every one of you for your progress! I read the JBCHS CF site and posts EVERYDAY, and I’ve got to admit I am astounded! You guys motivate the hell out of me daily, really pushing me to go harder/longer than I planned.  I can’t believe how far this has come in two years, from a proposal to an awesome affiliate!  That is all due to our great coaches and awesome athletes!!!  I know we’re ready to show the world that we have arrived!

As some of you may remember, my goal was representation of our box at some Garage Games competitions this year. I want to see how we stack up against other gyms in the region.  Especially after reading about Wright-Patterson AFB’s team that made it to regionals (and did well!). Well, I put my money where my mouth is and signed up for the Garage Games Mid-Atlantic Throwdown, July 21-22, in VA Beach. I’m dragging Judy and the boys up there to see where my fitness stacks up with the big boys. Ok, so why I am I posting this?   There are several competitions that I am going to wreck myself in preparing for (listed below). I know we had quite a few people who wanted to compete before I left, so I wanted to see if anyone else is interested. If you are a competitor; post to this announcement, then we can talk off-line to assess what competition/division is appropriate and accommodations.  Some events have team divisions which I think would be a lot of fun. Here’s the list of events that you won’t have to go alone in:

Memorial Day Murph, 27 May, IBA of course!

Garage Games Mid-Atlantic, VA Beach, July 21-22 (Garage Games Series Event) Anyone up for the drive?

World Wide WOD “The Aftermath” (online comp) Jul 15-31–This is 4-5 WODs in two week period posted to youtube for judging–in our own gym–easy comp!  (Garage Games Series Event)

CF Murphy Games-Murphy NC, September 1 (Garage Games Series Event) In the mountains, gasping for air…

Fight Gone Bad 7, 22 Sept–I think Nick has the lead on this one, I’m in!

USMC Mud Run (Teams of 4), Columbia SC, 13 Oct–This one is a BLAST, awesome fun!!!

Integrity’s Revenge, Charleston SC, November 3-4 (Garage Games Series Event)  This should be our biggest showing, need to expose yourself to a competition BEFORE this event.  No one wants to burn up/out in front of the home crowd!

I have about 2 months before going to Va Beach, so I am getting after it twice a day=4 WODs, 6-7 days a week getting ready (I’m sick, I know).  If you want to see what I’m doing you can follow me on Twitter @steve_hart13 (anti-fb! LOL!). I tweet my WODs out to people that workout in my classes here and it has comedic value some days. I’ll continue when I get back next month in my garage and our box. I’ll also tweet during the Garage Games to let everyone know how it is. Every event will have a mandatory pig-out/after party following completion…LOL! Work hard/play-hard! If you have an another event you’re interested in doing, let me know…I am always up for a challenge!

Keep on crushing PRs and never stop getting better!!!

Steve
